Review: The Children Act

The Children Act
The Children Act by Ian McEwan

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Short but thoughtful book that hits on a tough subject about aging with your significant other. Although the question doesn't get answered in a traditional sense, it does relate in a way that is haunting at times and eerily accurate at others.

I recommend this read for anyone especially married and over 40.

Absolution gets a remake!

Part one was originally written in the present tense to create more tension and a sense of the immediate. The rest of the book was past tense. A strange mix for sure but something I wanted to do.

After a lot of positive feedback, the number one comment from readers was that they wished the book was longer. Number two was that it was difficult to read and just about the time you got used to the style, I changed it. Kind of like a chocolate cake with a layer of kiwi puree. Too much of a distraction to be rewarding.

While I was at it, I got the cover redesigned. I loved it straight away and it shows up great on black and white Kindles making it more enticing for people searching for books directly from their device. That was a suggestion from a Kindle insider. Great advice.

Hope you like the changes! Here is the link: Absolution second edition

Everything's beautiful from far away

Things look different from the air. I happen to love this pic looking down on the Howard Hanson reservoir. It reminds me that beauty in anything is easily seen from far away. It's when we get close that the details begin to emerge and the trouble begins.

I think a good story understands this.
